People often argue about the need for a sex playlist or even, if music should be played during sex at all.
Sometime ago, I would have sex with someone who would put on mellow blue lights, set the AC to a low temperature and play soft music through his speakers when we were about to get down. I really liked it because it made the sex start in a sexy mood if you know what I mean…
Also, some of us are screamers so music is a necessity. So, if it’s worth doing, why not do it well?
Here are some of my top picks for songs to have on your sex playlist:
Khalid (feat. Summer Walker) – Eleven
Khalid and Summer Walker on a song is definitely one that would put you in your feelings. They are both R&B singers with soothing voices. My favourite parts in this song are the chorus and bridge where they sang together and honestly, the way their voices blended together is perfection!
“Am I your favourite drug you’ve been using?” is certainly a line that’ll get you hot and bothered while engaging in sexual activities with your lover. I’d say this one is perfect for setting the mood but really, whatever tickles your fancy.
Jhené Aiko – P*$$Y Fairy
This song has drunk or high sex written all over it. The lyrics are plain yet explicit. It gives off immense pussy power energy. I also love that it spoke about female orgasms; yass inclusion! It seems like “Close your eyes and let your feels go” is the message this song is trying to convey because that is exactly what it makes me do.
Beyoncé – Haunted
If there’s ever a thing as a song that feels and sounds like sex, then this song is apt! The beat, undertones and rap just makes me feel sexy, empowered and hot. As the name implies, the song gives off dark and eerie vibes and was featured in the iconic Fifty Shades Of Grey film franchise in one of the hottest sex scenes ever. You can tell Beyoncé had such fun making it as she mentions “All the shit I do is boring, all these record labels boring” and later “Probably won’t make no money off this, oh well”. It has two parts, part 1 is titled Ghost while part 2 is titled Haunted (the actual title of the entire song). The first part starts out with a clip of young Beyoncé thanking an audience after receiving an award. The second part is where the hot, breathtaking and steamy sex energy fully comes in.
Imagine slow-strokes in the missionary position with the love of your life while Beyoncé sings “Kiss, bite, foreplay!” in the background in a fierce yet sexy tone. The song will leave you breathless; literally. Listening to it while having sex will have you gasping for air or breathing right into your lovers face or mouth. It is that provocative. And this is why it is not advisable to play this song while having sex with a casual fling. Don’t blame us if you fall in love with them.
Remy Baggins (feat. Tomi Thomas) – Vibrate
Remy Baggins and sex songs are like 5 & 6. The song is basically about a man crazily attracted to a woman and how he puts said woman in 70 positions in 7 minutes.
I have to admit that I have a soft spot for male musicians that sing about pleasuring women, and in this case exactly how the women want it: “She say baby go slowly, slowly eh. Don’t stop till you feel my bones vibrate… She tell me lick it up like candy”.
Add this song to your sex playlist as a subtle way to let your partner know that you are all about them and their pleasure.
Teyana Taylor (feat. King Combs) – How You Want It?
I was so heartbroken when I learnt about Teyana Taylor’s intentions to retire from music because she’s a favourite. She possesses the ability to invoke whatever feeling she intends in her music and that excellently comes through in this song. She employs not only the lyrics and beat but also, and most importantly, her tone to pass her message across: toe-curling sex.
The song features King Combs and he does a wonderful job as well. How You Want It? is so intimate that it sounds like an actual conversation between two lovers. What did I say about women singing about how exactly they want to f-ck and be f-cked again? I love it!
Bonus: Odunsi (The Engine) (feat. Amaarae, DETO BLACK & Gigi Atlantis) – Body Count
Three women singing against purity culture? Inject it! This song was a cultural reset, no cap. The point of the song is simple: Have sex with whoever you want, however you want and wherever you want, while telling African aunties to mind their businesses. Omo!
I have never had sex to this song neither do I completely think it is a good pick for a sex playlist but I have to say, hearing “Don’t worry about your body count, let your body bounce” might just be the energy boost you need while having sex. Perhaps try it and let us know how you felt?
