Food is the best thing to exist, in my opinion.
Of course, it makes sense that as you eat large portions you directly consume large calories. And soon enough, nothing fits and your waistline is non-existent as with your joy.
Dieting has never really sat well with me. It honestly feels like a pointless struggle, especially since I enjoy eating.
You see, since I started adding ridiculous weight, especially around my stomach, I’ve heard incessant comments about my gluttony so I decided to do something about it. I really didn’t like how unhappy I was about my accumulated fat.
Truth be told, I eat too much. Even I must say.
However, I have declared food to be the best thing, really. It honestly gives me joy to eat yummy things, yummy anythings.
When I put food in my mouth, flavors burst in my brain and a song breaks out in my heart. Remy from Ratatouille can relate.
The Diet
When I first went on a diet, I reduced most of my sugar intake and I am proud to say that has somehow stuck with me. I no longer use sugar in cereal, tea or garri. I completely stopped taking mineral waters too. And sodas? Zilch. I am honestly so proud.
I now belong to the elite class that say “Just water is fine, thank you”.
I tried a composition of different diet plans.
I read about Low carbs-High protein diet plan and tried it for a bit.
This consists of meals that have high protein value and less carbohydrates.
I decided that the meals were not consistent with Nigerian foods and discarded it.
Honestly, list 5 Nigerian food without mentioning carbohydrate…..I’ll wait.
So I hopped on Intermittent fasting.
Intermittent fasting does not really regulate what foods you should eat, it however suggests when you should eat them.
That’s obviously something I can get on.
Water
I also minimized my alcohol intake and replaced that with drinking water. I don’t drink enough as I should, but it really helps generally and is important for your health.
Benefits of Water
Drinking water has so many benefits that science has proven and reiterated over the years. However for me, this is what I have personally noticed:
1. My skin is a lot clearer:
Of course, this is coupled with a lot of other things I do intentionally to improve my skin’s health. I just know that my skin is now properly hydrated because I have replaced unhealthy drinks with water.
Drinking water has definitely contributed to my skin looking healthier.
2. I get full easily:
See, because I am always hungry, I always want something in my mouth and that is not going to help my weight loss. Not one bit.
What do I do when I get the crave to swallow something? I drink water. Granted, this is no way as delicious as eating fries and tearing into sweet, sweet chicken but its definitely healthier. Drink water when you get cravings; Its like telling your brain and stomach to shut up. You have successfully tricked your body into staying full with H20.
You’re welcome.
3. My Vagina pH stays balanced:
Although I do not get tested often, my remedy for when something is off down there is to drink enough water. Not an insane amount, just enough. You’ll find that your yoni will be happier and fresher and even your pee will be clearer.
[Editors note: Your skin is prone to dryness if you don’t drink a lot of water, and this includes your vaginal skin. Whatever goes on inside your body is a direct reflection of what goes on inside your body, so if your vaginal skin is dry, chances are its the same on the inside. This can throw off your vagina pH balance and can also lead to yeast infections].
I am currently still struggling with my diet plan because for the hundredth time, I am a foodie.
Dieting truthfully means eating foods that will make you unhappy but If you really think about it, you were unhappy in the first place and that’s why you even thought to diet. I remember when I had wheat bread for one whole week straight, ugh the horror. Its so annoying that a diet plan has to consist of all the foods you hate; Imagine eating oats, salads, chicken (without the skin), no dairy, no shawarma, no pizza.
Omo.
Also, before I forget, dieting alone is not as effective if you don’t integrate exercise along with it. It is true that losing belly fat is incredibly difficult, especially if you have no discipline, are a glutton or lazy, but I want you to know that it is 100% possible.
Many have done it before us and we will do it too.
I also recently started at the gym because I want to test myself and see how far I can go. I’ll definitely update you as soon as I see progress.. or not.
