Press Play: Our 2024 Women’s History Month Playlist

On the third month of every year, the world collectively celebrates Women’s History Month, a time to reflect on the remarkable women who shaped our history and paved the way for who we are today. It’s also an opportunity to look forward to the achievments of the women who will follow in their footsteps.

One of the best ways to participate in the month-long celebration is to immerse yourself in empowering feminist/girl power songs.

Music can take us through time, carrying us through decades and ages, immersing us in different worlds.

Songs, to me, are affirmations. They declare that 🎶I am woman, I am fearless, I am sexy, I am divine🎶. They proclaim that 🎶though I may look like a girl, I am a flame—so bright that I can burn your eyes🎶.

I want to use the magic of music to empower all women this month. We hope this playlist provides comfort, healing, and inspiration whenever you need it to.

FAVOURITE LYRICS

Anything that you can do, I can do it better
While I’m bleeding
Every dollar that you make, I make a percentage
Call it even
Fake a smile so that they don’t call you a bitch who takes up space
Run the world then be a good mother
But don’t expect no praise
You wish you could do it like a girl
Do it like a woman
Counting our money then raising a child
Do it like a girl
When you said we couldn’t
Did it in heels, I’d love to see you try
To do it like a girl, girl

FAVOURITE LYRICS

Sabi girl no dey too like talk
Me no get the time for the hate and the bad energy
Got my mind on my money
Steady on my grind, no wan hear what they wan telly me
Dem wan dey check if my tap e no rush
But e dey rush (e dey rush)
E dey rush well, well, e be much (e be much)
Na God dey make my tap, e dey rush

FAVOURITE LYRICS

And if you find yourself in a dark situation
Just turn on your light and be like
“Yes, and?”
Say that shit with your chest, and
Be your own fuckin’ best friend
Say that shit with your chest
Keep movin’ like, “What’s next?”
“Yes, and?”

FAVOURITE LYRICS

My feet, feet can’t touch the ground
And I can’t hear a sound
But you just keep on running up your mouth, yeah
Walk, walk on over there
‘Cause I’m too fly to care, oh, yeah
Your words don’t mean a thing
I’m not listening
Keep talking, all I know is
Mama told me not to waste my life
She said, “Spread your wings, my little butterfly”
Don’t let what they say keep you up at night
And they can’t detain you
‘Cause wings are made to fly
And we don’t let nobody bring us down
No matter what you say, it won’t hurt me
Don’t matter if I fall from the sky
These wings are made to fly

FAVOURITE LYRICS

The category is body, look at the way it’s sittin’ (yeah)
That ratio so out of control
That waist, that ass, them titties (that waist, that ass, them titties)
If I wasn’t me and I would’ve see myself, I would have bought me a drink (hey)
Took me home, did me long, ate it with the panties on (ugh, ugh, ugh)
I could build a house with all the brick I got (yeah)
Bitches spend a lifetime tryna get this hot (tryna get this hot)
And if her head too big, I could make that pop
I’m not the one to play with like a touch-me-not, ah

FAVOURITE LYRICS

I am woman, I am fearless
I am sexy, I’m divine
I’m unbeatable, I’m creative
Honey, you can get in line
I am feminine, I am masculine
I am anything I want
I can teach you, I can love you
If you got it goin’ on

FAVOURITE LYRICS

I’m a grown woman
I can do whatever I want
