Pre-watch thoughts: I’m feeling pretty excited to watch this one. Typically, anything with Nse Ikpe Etim or Dakore Egbuson-Akande is usually a good watch. I’ve seen good reviews through the streets of twitter so with fingers crossed and a lot of popcorn, here are 99 real time thoughts I had while watching A Sunday Affair on Netflix.
- We love an Ebonylife TV Production
- It’s Lagos in 1999 and there are 2 young girls at the beach
- Wholesome female friendships? Yes, yes and yes – inject it
- It’s Lagos in 2023 now so the girls are way older and are at a wedding ceremony
- I agree Nse (Nse Ikpe Etim). He’s indeed a fine man
- I love the wedding reception energy
- With that fine man over there? There’s no way she’s staying put Dakore (Dakore Egbuson-Akande)
- Can they just speak to each other? I’m over the batting of eye lashes
- Nse’s character, Uche is freaky freaky
- You’re telling me Uche is the Sister of the bride?
- Uche invites Sunday (the fine man and Oris Erhuero’s character) to her gallery event the next day
- More sex I guess?
- It’s the next day. A guy called Sam walks in to see Uche
- He’s giving sugar daddy vibes
- He is infact a sugar daddy
- Uche is giving the gallery welcome speech and an upset Sam interrupts her
- Sugar daddy Wahala
- Again, female friendships >
- Toyin (Dakore Egbuson-Akande’s character) is on a train to Ibadan, and apparently Sunday is on it too
- Seems like Toyin is trying to have a baby through artificial insemination
- Toyin and Sunday are stuck in Ibadan
- Why do I feel a cliché scene coming up?
- These ones should not fall in love o
- Because the way they are laughing. Hm
- Toyin is definitely tipsy
- I said it!
- Girl if you don’t close the door in his face
- Saved by the wife’s call
- It’s been a minute I saw the stunning Hilda Dokubo (Uche’s mother). I missed her on my screen!
- Uche and Sunday are going out for drinks. Sounds like trouble to me
- “I think I might invest in you” > “You are the bane of my existence”
- Sunday, Sunday, Sunday
- How many times did I call you?
- I love how sex positive Nollywood has become
- Toyin, if you don’t throw his business card away!
- Hitting on 2 best friends in one night? Sunday, I hail o
- Ikoyi city boys, see your role model
- Girl, he doesn’t need you to buy him a drink I promise
- Oops, she bought him the drink
- I feel bad for both women, but mostly Toyin
- He’s so not going to end it with the girls, but let’s see sha
- Sunday is on his way to end it with Uche
- Not the strip club red lights!
- Oh, but I love it.
- Yes ma’am, tie him up!
- Uche – 1, Sunday – 0
- Okay we’ve seen enough of the yellow Porsche now
- It’s a new day and Sunday looks like trouble in a striped suit
- Don’t get too excited Toyin, he’s here to break your heart..
- ..Or not.
- Oh, he’s taking off his suit
- Toyin and Sunday are making out now
- I’m exasperated
- Toyin and Uche are hanging out and dancing, but Toyin seems out of breath and tired
- Toyin is tired? Are you thinking what I’m thinking?
- This scene where the girls talk about the same guy without giving so much detail is wild to me. And they are supposed to be best friends?
- Leave him girls, let him cook
- It’s Sunday’s break up rehearsal for me
- Ghosting 101 with Sunny Boy
- Sunday has successfully broken up with both girls
- I have a feeling Toyin is pregnant
- Sunday just said he’s in love with both girls. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, a Yoruba demon
- Hold my popcorn
- I’m stressed out
- Toyin has Stage 3 Cervical Cancer? Okay plot twist
- Sunday is back in both their lives (Toyin & Uche)
- So much chaos
- Revelation time: Toyin tells Uche she’s in love with Sunday but she doesn’t know he’s the same guy Uche has also been seeing
- Uche is just the sweetest with how she reacted to the revelation. But I wish she confided in Uche
- Girl, come take a hug!
- Throw this Sunday man away please, with his accent
- Oh, Uche is angry and storms into Sunday’s office
- Break his head Uche!
- Expected more breakage but okay…
- At least Toyin is happy
- The tension at this dining table is wild
- Sunday is with Toyin even though he loves Uche more (side-eye) and Uche can’t step in because Toyin has a terminal illness so everyone is walking on eggshells around her
- Abeg, is this realistic at all?
- Truly a Sunday affair
- I need to raid Uche’s wardrobe
- I know, I’m stressed out too
- Toyin is pregnant! I knew it
- But there are issues with her pregnancy because of the cancer
- Sunday and Uche are f****** on the low
- If I see this yellow car one more time, I might lose it
- I love Uche but this ginger wig has to go at some point. How many years has it been? Ahnahn
- Hm. Toyin is in labour but it’s not looking good
- Wait. Toyin & the baby are dead?
- Wow, so she died?
- Okay so she left Uche & Sunday a letter
- Hold on. Toyin knew about Sunday and Uche all along? And she was fine with being left in the dark?
- What type of dumb movie plot is this one?
- Okay the baby is alive
- Again, they couldn’t go another direction with this movie?
- So you’re telling me Toyin died so her best friend Uche, could end up with her baby daddy, Sunday, who was two timing them both?
- And Toyin still left money for Uche in Dollaz! Hm. I crave this type of friendship
- Justice for Toyin
- What ever happened to Sunday’s wife (Eku Edewor) and family?
- The movie production was great but they could have done so much better with the script
Post-watch thoughts: It’s not the most critical watch, but it’ll make you laugh a bit and roll your eyes once or twice. It’s an okay script on the beauty of female friendships, while making notations to topics like cervical cancer and IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) for women. If you’re looking for something to watch with your girls this March, go for it. Just remember, Sisters before Misters.
