On September 26, 21 Magazine hosted its third edition of the Covergirls Book Club, a special brunch edition that featured the highly esteemed author, Adesuwa Nwokedi, at The House, VI. The afternoon brought together women who shared a love for books, conversation, good food, and a little friendly competition.

The space quickly settled into an easy rhythm, with women chatting, exchanging recommendations, and discussing the stories and authors they love. It was an afternoon built around the simple pleasure of talking about books, but with plenty of room for the conversations to wander.
Guests had the opportunity to hear directly from Nwokedi as she read an excerpt from her book, The Marriage Class, offering everyone a chance to experience her work in her own voice. The conversation extended beyond the pages of her book, with guests getting the opportunity to ask questions about her writing, creative journey, and experiences. She shared thoughtful advice with the audience, offering perspectives into the realities of creativity, work, and finding your own path.

After the conversation, the meals arrived and the energy shifted effortlessly from the formal conversation into relaxed table chatter. It was the kind of casual chitchat that makes a book club feel less like an event and more like a gathering of friends.
And then, the games began.

What started as an afternoon of books quickly became more competitive, with guests taking part in games and activities that brought even more laughter and energy into the room. Between the friendly competition and spontaneous conversations, the afternoon became a celebration not just of reading, but of spending time together.
The Covergirls Book Club Brunch was ultimately about creating a space where women could come together over something they love. Books provided the starting point, but the conversations, laughter, shared meals, and new connections became just as important to the experience.

For us at 21 MAG, events like Covergirls are a reflection of our commitment to building spaces where women can connect, share, and simply enjoy being in community with one another.
