On July 26, 21 magazine launched its book club, Covergirls, with a reading at the Ouida bookstore. Since its inception, the book club has grown to over 300 members in its WhatsApp community. Each week, we discuss the chapters and characters from the desired book of the month.
Due to popular demand, the 21 Magazine was thrilled to announce its second edition: the Beauty & Books Edition, held in collaboration with the beauty studio, Mollycoddle. As the girls laughed and drank their Boozy Pop cocktails, the vibe of the event became clear. This highly anticipated gathering delivered on its promise, dedicated to mixing self-care with storytime and proving that literature and lifestyle go hand-in-hand.
What went down at the 21 magazine Covergirls hangout?

On Friday, November 15, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, the beautiful Mollycoddle Studio in Lekki transformed into a haven for a select group of book lovers. The studio, typically filled with guests having a spa day or a mani-pedi appointment, had become a cosy set-up with books at one side, food and cocktails at the other, and if your eyes were sharp enough… 21 magazine had hidden gift bags all around.
This edition was intimate and limited to under 15 guests, which ensured a truly close and focused experience where genuine connections could flourish among the attendees. The carefully curated, close-knit setting perfectly embodied the Covergirls’ spirit of celebrating stories, personal style, and sisterhood in an enriching environment.
The atmosphere was a perfect blend of relaxation and intellectual stimulation. This included lively debates about various books that were perceived as overrated, along with discussions on what we think about the rise and influence of contemporary book influencers in our community. When it came to choosing the book of the month, the group had to thoughtfully decide between “I Am Swarm” by Hayley Chewins and “We Were Liars” by E. Lockhart.
Both had their charm; I am Swarm had offered an interesting writing technique, as it is a novel written in poetry and not prose. While We Were Liars is a renowned internet fan-favourite. The voting was tight; do we try something new, or do we try something popular?
Eventually, we settled on the compelling We Were Liars as their selection for the day, which sparked a thoughtful and engaging discussion. The self-care component was key, as guests were treated to discounts on manicures and pedicures provided by the Mollycoddle team.
Manicures, Meaningful Talks, Munchies, and Meet our Amazing Partners

This social experience was further fueled by a delicious spread provided by 12 Takeout, featuring chicken wings, Philly Subway sandwiches, and French fries. Most notably, as the afternoon progressed, the combination of great conversation and drinks courtesy of Boozy Pop naturally transformed the book club into a lively social mixer, enabling connections and laughter among the women. The Boozy Pop drinks included their signatures like Vanilla Margarita, Rum Punch Mojito, and a personal favourite, Snow Pop. Every attendee walked away with a renewed sense of harmony, a free book to continue their journey, and exclusive discount codes from Mollycoddle for future beauty indulgence.

Boozy Pop cocktails

21 Magazine is grateful for the partnership that made the Beauty & Books Edition a resounding success. Mollycoddle Beauty Studio graciously hosted the event and provided the pampering self-care services. 12 Takeout supplied the delicious food, and Boozy Pop ensured the energy remained high by providing the sponsored, refreshing beverages that helped turn the discussion into a vibrant mixer. This collaboration explored forms of self-care, marking the continuation of a movement where women gather to grow, geek out over stories, and forge lasting friendships.
