The Ground Rules (The Rule Breakers #1) by Roya Carmen
This book is hands down my favorite, it’s just so damn good and addicting. The Ground Rules is the first book of the three-book series titled ‘The Rule Breakers’. It’s about a married couple, Mirella and Gabe who were high school sweethearts. Everything changes for this pair after a dinner reservation goes wrong and they meet another intriguing married couple who offers to share their table with them.
Weston and Bridget are not your regular couple. They are successful, filthy rich and mysterious, you can’t help but feel the odd pull between these pair, especially Weston and Mirella. After their unplanned double date, they parted ways without even exchanging as much as a phone number, only for a lovely bouquet of roses to show up at Mirella’s work place.
Gabe and Mirella soon discover they are in for a deliciously forbidden treat when they reconnect with this enigmatic couple and are introduced to an inviting proposal.
I’m going to have to stop here before I get caught up in fawning over this book and start mindlessly spilling some spoilers. This book is an unconventional read for every romance lover, I mean I have read tons of romance novels but nothing has topped this book.

Extreme Exposure by Pamela Clare
If you have never tried romantic suspense, then I recommend this book. The story revolves around Kara McMillan, an investigative reporter for a Denver newspaper who is also a single mother. Things start to turn around for the better for this reporter when the sexy politician and former school teacher; Reece Sheridan walks into her life.
The narrative takes a fearful turn when Kara starts to investigate a mining company that has been polluting the environment with toxic dusts and chemicals. She soon discovers that she is in over her head when the death threats she has been receiving begins to become reality. Reece and Kara soon find themselves in a life or death situation that threatens to draw the love they share to a gory end.
This book will have you holding your breath in trepidation and letting out dreamy sighs at every turn of its page. It is also the first book of an independent twelve-book series titled ‘The I-Team’.

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
I wanted something different from my usual cliché reads and this book more than satisfied this craving.
This breathtaking story takes us through the last thirty years of Afghanistan, depicting the soviet invasion, the reign of the Taliban and the post-Taliban rebuilding, these jarring backdrops unfold within the lives of two women, Miriam and Laila.
Although there was a lot going on in this enthralling novel, you can’t help but remain stuck on the love between Laila and Tariq, the plot takes us through their adventures as children to their coming of age and it’s almost impossible not to have a special place in your heart for this duo that evolved from best friends to lovers.
I’m trying to talk about this book without giving spoilers but reading this book has changed my perspective on a lot of things, it was so insightful reading about the treatment of women in Afghanistan during those times. Being the hard guy that I am, I was surprised that I found myself teary eyed one too many times while reading this novel.
A Thousand Splendid Suns is a book that would renew anyone’s reverence for love and make you cherish the people around you more, Khaled Hosseini really did a good job with this multigenerational novel taking us through so many historical monuments and events in Afghanistan, whilst vividly depicting the lives of two courageous women.

Willing Victim by Cara McKenna
I wasn’t too keen on reading this book after scanning through the synopsis and book description, so I went on Goodreads to check out all the reviews and decided to give it a try. This book contains consensual but intense role-playing scenes that some may find triggering and upsetting.
For such a short read it was absolutely riveting. Laurel White witnesses a man abusing his girlfriend in the street when Michael Flynn swoops in to break it up in the most intimidating way. Laura is intrigued by Flynn’s build and show of masculinity and decides on the spot that she would like to get to know this hunk of a man, so she catches up to him and summons all the courage she has to ask him out for lunch.
On their impromptu lunch date, Flynn invites her to a secret underground fight club in hopes to scare her off but Laura doesn’t run off just yet, instead she finds herself accepting an unusual invitation that would change her life forever.
All the sex scenes in this book were purely consensual, and Flynn has a smug way with words that will have you smiling sheepishly. So if you’re looking for a steamy romance novel, you might want to add this book to your library.

The Client by Kimber Lee
I remember reading this book in my Wattpad days and not being able to get over it. For those of us who do not know what Wattpad is, it is an application and website where members can publish user generated stories.
It was a surprisingly satisfying read having the heroine be the sexually experienced one and the hero be the tongue tied novice.
Lena and Reed are bound to take you on a fictional adventure of a lifetime, this sassy bodyguard and naïve artist will have you laughing your hearts out and gnawing at your nails in agitation. If you love solving mysteries you will definitely enjoy this book.
If you have a Wattpad account, you can follow @kanyeinterruptedme to access her works, every book by this author is bound to leave you hooked!
I guarantee you would love these books. Don’t forget to give feedback once you check out any of them. Recommendations are also more than welcome.
