Everybody likes to think the Island is the food destination in Lagos, but we simply cannot get over these places on the Lagos mainland. Somehow these food spots manage to have the best meals while still being budget-friendly, what else is better? The heart of Lagos is home to satisfying almost any food craving you might have. They don’t call it the MAIN-land for nothing! According to popular statistics, below is a tasty list of the best places to treat your stomach if you ever find yourself in these towns.
Ikeja – ‘Iya Baraka’
Nothing says mainland like Ikeja. It’s home to a buzzing environment and business setups, no wonder Iya baraka won this spot. The diversity of their menu tops the roof and honestly, it’s their Amala and Ogufe combo for me. It is a great eat-out spot for the squad, and with less than N500 at that. Just like the names goes, the food always tastes like Iya (mama) made it.
Yaba – ‘White House’
Just like the name implies, the people of the federation of Yaba report here. The White House Restaurant AKA The White House of Yaba offers assorted dishes to well over 60% of company staffs that work there. Their Swallow game is on another level. It is the kind of place you should wear a big sized shirt to, so you don’t feel uncomfortable when your food baby appears. And of course, it’s very affordable. For me, the beautiful thing is to realize that this restaurant has been in business for decades, and when I say decades, I mean decades. Nigerian businesses withstanding the test of time? We love to see it! However, I do wish they will glam up the ambiance a bit but then again, who questions the WHITE HOUSE?
Gbagada – ‘Dundun Nation’
2 words; Dundun Nation. Dundun nation is simply everybody’s favorite in Gbagada. They are consistently all for giving you perfectly served plantain, yam and potato chips. Their onipomo and shrimp sauce bangs any day and everyday. You just have to love their ambiance and cute packaging too! In the simplest words, their food just says good day or bad day, we gatchu.
Magodo Phase 2 – ‘Norma’
Think street food in Magodo and think Norma. This Northern grill spot serves a Plethora of easy food. From grilled suya to ram balangu, it takes 101% of discipline to walk by and not stop by for some grills. It’s a great place to hangout with friends, and catch a football match on the screen. Quality in your belly for a penny!
Surulere – ‘Olaiya’
Who doesn’t enjoy a fine plate of hot Amala? Well, I do and so do the beautiful people of Surulere, which is why Olaiya’s food canteen has been chosen as one of the top places to have a good filling meal. This restaurant prides in its Swallow cuisine and other local dishes. It’s all for giving you the Owambe vibe! It is also pocket friendly and easy to navigate. What’s not to love ?
Festac Town – ‘Mega Chicken’
If you are looking for a perfect food spot in Festac town, drive down to Mega Chicken. It is great for the family and they serve almost any type of food you can fathom. They have a cute playground for the kids, as well as delivery services. Their Yamarita and egg sauce special is out of this world. The people of Festac definitely know how to have a good time.
Personally, I am 100% a frugal foodie so trust me when I say these places are the real deal! What places have you visited, and what places will you like to visit?
