I bet you already know the basics of a good skin care routine: You need a gentle cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer and of course, sunscreen.

No one really talks about the importance of adding Vitamin C to your skincare routine. I know someone reading this might probably be thinking ‘but I take Vitamin C through my diet. Isn’t that enough already?’ Yes, this is good too. Although when applied topically, it also has a lot of benefits on the skin.

Vitamin C is one essential ingredient to add to your everyday routine.

Lets find out why, shall we?

What is Vitamin C?

Vitamin C is known as a powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals. Do you know what this means? This baby helps to rebuild damaged skin cells and helps your skin natural regeneration process.

It is also known for boosting collagen production in the skin. As we grow older, our Collagen level depletes which can cause wrinkles and premature ageing to the skin. Thanks to Vitamin C, we can avoid wrinkles. Amazing!

Vitamin C plays a role in this aspect by helping to increase collagen in the body. Think of it as a very versatile ingredient in skincare.

There are so many reasons why we all need to add Vitamin C to our skincare routine. Here’s why:

It hydrates your skin:

Vitamin C serves as a good moisturizer. It penetrates into your skin and since it’s an active ingredient, it starts its work just immediately. It helps keep the skin hydrated and healthy.

It helps even out your skin tone and reduce redness:

You know those dark spots that resulted from those pesky pimples, and staying in the sun too long without wearing sunscreen? Vitamin C helps to reduce those spots on the skin.

It helped even out my skin giving me a more uniformed color. Vitamin C helps to reduce redness and evens out your skin tone to give you a clearer complexion.

It helps to brighten your skin:

Vitamin C helps to brighten your skin tone, leaving you with that glow-y look. Don’t we all just want that dewy skin glow ?

It helps in boosting Collagen production:

Collagen is a natural protein we all have, which depletes over time as we age. Low collagen leads to ageing and wrinkles. Applying Vitamin C helps in boosting collagen overtime, as this helps to prevent premature ageing and keeps your skin tight and firm.

It helps to heal wounds/scars:

You would be surprised how this powerful antioxidant helps in rapid recovery of wounds. Vitamin C helps to heal even old scars. Sis, do you see why you need this genie in your skin care routine now?

It helps to soothe sunburns:

Vitamin C has the potency of healing sunburns gradually. Prepare to say goodbye to those suntans you didn’t ask for.

How To Incorporate Vitamin C In Your Skincare Routine

Vitamin C is found in different forms. From moisturizers to serums to supplements. Whatever it is, find the one that truly works just fine for your skin.

If it’s a serum, be sure to apply it after you’re done cleansing your face with a gentle wash, apply a toner and a moisturizer and then pat on your serum. It can be used both day and night. I apply Vitamin C in this form, and it just gives me this glow that I love!

Ps: Vitamin C works wonders with sunscreen. These two come in  handy as they work together to achieve great results for your skin.
