To be honest, most Nigerian men are bad for your health, but some are really bad and should be avoided at all costs. In this article, I’ll be highlighting five types of Nigerian men you absolutely shouldn’t date, unless you like stress and headache then good luck sis.
All you’ll get out of the relationship dating these types of men are tears and heartbreak. I can’t decide who the worst is, number 4 or 5?
1/ ‘Omo Mommy’
They are either their mother’s only son or their mother’s first son, and they simply do not have a mind of their own. You’ll spend all your time in the relationship in an unspoken competition with his mum. It’s not enough that you try to be in his mum’s good books, if she doesn’t like you, she doesn’t like you. You think that you are in an exclusive relationship with your man but what you don’t know is that his mum is a third party in the relationship. He reports you to her and tells her about everything that goes on in the relationship. If you go ahead to marry men like these, his mother will be the one dictating the pace of the relationship, “get married here”, “give birth here”.
Very exhausting, if you ask me.
The worst of the worst, are the older ones who still live with their mothers. Even the men that live alone, but expect you to clean up after their mess and be a complete slave because they are used to their mothers infantilizing them. A complete recipe for disaster; would not recommend at all.
2/ The Selfish Man Who Can Die If He Puts You First
These are the types of men that will indirectly tell you to “struggle for your own orgasms”. They are selfish in and out of bed, and they don’t care about you or your feelings. These type of men will try to keep you on a leash so they can keep having access to you. However, they don’t want to be exclusive or vulnerable with you. Today they are here, tomorrow they are gone. These men will frequently ghost you and then proceed to gaslight you. They are serial cheaters, but will be so protective over you and wouldn’t even want you spending time with friends, especially male friends. This man is most likely with you because he thinks you’re weak and easy to walk all over. The moment he finds his next prey, he’ll be off.
3/ The Stingy And Unreliable Man
Between stingy men and selfish men, I don’t know who is more wicked. It is different when a man doesn’t have money. Stingy men are the ones that do have, but just don’t see why they should spend on their partners. I like to believe that anybody who loves you will automatically want to care and provide for you, but not stingy men. They will always give the most excuses and are the most unreliable people you will ever meet.
They will shower you with independent woman praises and tell you that you are not like other women. All these to deter you from asking them for money because after all, you are a CEO. Who said that independent women don’t need support? we all need help and assistance sometimes, please. However, that one is not a stingy man’s business.
The worst thing about men like these is, they are hardly ever there for you but when the tables turn and they want something, they will pester you like there’s no tomorrow.
4/ The Abusive And Toxic Man
This one is not even debatable. If he hits you or even threatens to do so, leave him. Abuse isn’t only physical, you can also be emotionally and financially abused. If he talks downs on you and says vile things to you, he’s being emotionally abusive. If he won’t let you work or is jealous of your success, he’s being financially abusive. For abusive men, everything is about power and dominance and they will do anything to retain that power. They hit you and bring down your self-esteem so you can feel small and dependent on them, and this is why they isolate you from friends and family.
This is also why it’s important to not ignore red flags when in the talking stage with a person. His overprotectiveness is not cute, he’s just an asshole in disguise. A person that truly loves you will want to see you soar and happy with other people. Your happiness should never lie in the hands of just one person.
5/ The Wealthy Misogynistic Man
Every wealthy Nigerian man is a misogynist, especially the older ones. This is the worst kind of man you will ever meet, I can tell you that for free. Which is horrible because most Nigerian men are suffering from sexism.
And we wonder why dating in this country is so hard?
They are sexist and believe women should serve them. It doesn’t matter that he hasn’t been condescending to you yet, if he constantly speaks bad about other women, he needs to go. It is very easy to spot a misogynistic Nigerian man; if he is wealthy, he will show off and brag about his wealth every chance he gets, because he believes he can bribe every woman with his corrupt money. If he isn’t wealthy, he’ll be very quick to refer to a Nigerian woman as an Ashewo.
Sometimes misogyny is not very jarring, it can be as subtle as making ‘jokes’ that ridicule women or putting other women down to ‘elevate’ you, and this is wrong. You can be a star without looking down on other people, the sky is big enough anyway. Misogynistic and abusive men are similar because they both seek to exert dominance on you. These type of men are bad for you and your mental health because you will find yourself doing mental gymnastics to accommodate them and their excesses. And this is why it is better to nip it in the bud before it progresses into a relationship. He should come correct or not come at all.
In conclusion, please run from men like these. It will never well, don’t make excuses for bad behavior.
